Nightwater Controls & Input Setup
Use the prompts and settings in your running Nightwater 1.0 build as the authority for controls. The official marketing screenshot below shows RMB to exit build mode, B to change building, R to rotate and Left Shift to build multiple. Those are observed screenshot bindings from an unidentified earlier build, not a verified complete list of 1.0 defaults. Steam metadata lists full controller support, but a capability tag does not establish every device's button mapping, rebinding options or inversion behavior.

Check the current action prompt first
Enter the relevant mode and read its on-screen prompt. The same key can have different meaning in a menu, build mode or a minigame. Confirm the action you are testing before concluding that the device is not recognized.
Controller capability and actual mapping
Steam's controller metadata is an official capability signal, not a hands-on certification for a particular pad or Steam Input layout. Test menu navigation, interaction and building separately; record which action fails and whether keyboard/mouse still works.
Rebinding and inversion
Look in the current game options before applying a remembered demo mapping. We have not verified a complete release-build rebinding screen. For inversion reports, distinguish the horizontal axis from the vertical axis and note whether the problem occurs in all modes.
Keep the first-session setup small
Make one change at a time and test a simple action. Once the input feels usable, follow the opening resource and building goals rather than spending the entire first session configuring an untested community layout.

Sources & verification
Official source check: 2026-09-19. Release state and scope use Steam Store and developer news; current named objectives use Steam achievements. Editorial sequences are advice, not a hands-on speedrun or a verified unlock dependency graph. Historical demo and marketing-image observations keep their own limitations.
