Nightwater 1.0 Beginner Guide

Start by gathering nearby resources, reading the milestone panel for those materials, and constructing a building you can actually supply. Then connect a small production line with pipes and give its output a destination. The public Steam goals provide useful checkpoints: Foraging, Constructor, Automation and Manifested cover a first resource, building, pipe and island expansion. They are checkpoints, not a mandatory unlock sequence. Expand when your next objective needs a new area, and try a minigame once your existing line can keep working without constant manual attention.

Gather toward one visible unlock

Follow the opening prompts, collect a nearby resource and inspect its milestone entry. Pick an unlock that removes your current obstacle: obtaining an input, processing it or reaching a new area. Keep the resource name and the unlock goal together so you are not gathering unrelated materials by habit.

  1. Locate the milestone for the resource you are gathering.
  2. Read the next unlock before spending the same material on extra buildings.
  3. Make one required craft and check that the goal advances.

Build a line you can watch from end to end

Choose one source and one useful output. Add the gathering building when available, connect transport, and inspect where items arrive. Add processing only when you can feed its recipe. A machine standing beside another machine is not evidence that the handoff works; look for the receiving inventory or output to change.

  1. Check source availability.
  2. Confirm the receiving building has the required input.
  3. Watch the output destination before duplicating the line.

Use expansion to solve an actual shortage

The Manifester expands the island, as confirmed by the Manifested achievement. Before expanding, decide whether you need a new resource, a regional milestone or another activity. Keep your original production line readable so returning with new materials does not require rebuilding everything.

Try a minigame while the factory runs

The five minigames have their own progression and can reward the main factory. They are optional. The Forest Minigame's Wood Dust and Elder Tree goals give an early side activity to recognize; do not treat every minigame currency as a factory recipe ingredient.

Questions about this route

Must I follow the Steam achievements in order?

No. The beginner checkpoints describe actions, not a verified mandatory unlock sequence.

Should I automate everything immediately?

Start with one useful, working line. Expand it after you see which input or output actually limits the next goal.
