Nightwater Pipes Guide
Pipes connect Nightwater machines into production chains. Begin with one short source-to-receiver connection, confirm the intended material arrives, then add branches. Building a first pipe is the public Automation achievement. A connected-looking layout alone does not establish flow, capacity or priority. Diagnose idle machines using actual input/output behavior, and keep any observed transport limits attached to the current build and test conditions.

Connect one useful route
Name the source, receiver and material before laying out a network. Keep the first route short enough to inspect and verify receiving stock changes.
Check new branches against old demand
After adding a consumer, revisit the original line. If it becomes starved, inspect shared supply and the handoff before assuming a universal branch-priority rule.
Plan topology, then test flow
The pipe planner flags disconnected machines and dead ends. Its graph is a structural aid, not a simulation of unverified in-game pipe capacities.
Put the plan to work
Sketch sources, machines, storage and junctions, then flag disconnected machines and dead ends without fake capacity math.
